Accessibility Statement
This website follows guidelines on accessibility set out by the W3C (the World Wide Web Consortium). We are committed to meeting the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and make every effort to ensure our site is accessible to people with special needs, including those with visual, hearing, cognitive and motor impairments.
Visual Design
This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout validated using the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C's) validation service.
The stylesheet is written to display pages correctly in most commonly-used browsers. In browsers which do not support stylesheets, the flow of content has been tested to ensure it completely retains its sense.
This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified “text size” option in visual browsers.
Primary site navigation is located on the left of each page. Secondary navigation elements are contained in the footer. This navigation is site-wide and does not vary from page to page.
Text Size
Although we use a relatively large default text size, you can still change your text size using your browser: For Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, select Text size from the View menu or hold the Control key and use the scroll wheel on your mouse. If you are using another browser, please refer to your browser help to learn how to resize text.
Images
We ensure that all images on this site have brief alternative text which, where appropriate, identifies an image or its function. This alternative text (alt-text) is generally only visible when the browser's automatic image loading feature is turned off, or when you rollover an image with your mouse.
Links
We try to ensure that link text makes sense out of context and that it accurately describes the pages it points to. You can use the tab key on your keyboard (as well as your mouse) to move from consecutive link to link. Some links, mostly to external sites, open a new browser window. There will always be a warning in either the text or the 'title' attribute of the link.
Colour
Foreground and background colours on this site have been selected to provide a proper level of contrast for ease of reading. Throughout the site, colour is never used as a sole means to convey information.
Print Layout
This website is also optimised for printing. Simply print the page using your browsers print option and the page will contain colours and layout optimised for printing.
Access Keys
Access keys have been made available for the core functions of the site. Numbers have been used to correspond to the '4 Steps' on the navigation menu. This also overcomes the issues of allocating letters (eg ALT-F) which can also invoke Windows menu options.
ALT-0 takes you to Home Page
ALT-1 takes you to STEP 1 - Current Stock
ALT-2 takes you to STEP 2 - Buying from Us
ALT-3 takes you to STEP 3 - Library Services
ALT-4 takes you to STEP 4 - UKMarc | Marc21 | UniMarc
To use the access keys:
Using a PC: press Alt + Access key (together), then release and press Enter.
Using a Mac: press Control and Access key.
Use of PDF Format
The site makes use of Portable Document Format (PDF). Certain documents (such as forms and certain reports) on this site are available in PDF format, which requires you to have installed the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software.
