It helps to build a better relationship if you can put a face to the name, so here's a photo and a few words about the core team.

In addition to our core team, we also maintain a pool of specialists to cover our spectrum of languages. They are on-call for transliteration, and also to assist with servicing during our busiest periods..


  • Mahmudul Haq Founding Director

    Started out as Professor of Geography (Dhaka University), then spent 20 years teaching in the inner-city schools of Bradford. His passion for books, knowledge and education provided the vision to launch Books Asia in 1985. He's a fan of classic Bengali literature, and is our Bengali specialist.

    He's a strong believer in business ethics and loves working in the book industry.

    Sadly, he passed away in December 2024. He will be missed. And we vow to continue his legacy and passion at Books Asia.
  • Shomi Haq Director / Project Manager

    HSBC Systems Analyst for 5 years, KPMG Consultant for 10 years, William Hill Project Manager for 5 years. An experienced Prince2 Practitioner, he developed our bespoke Library System, our Marc Generators and our Website.

    He designed and developed Books Asia EDI from the ground up after joining Books Asia in 2010.

    Shomi became Director in 2014, at which time the company was also restructured as Books Asia Ltd.
  • Tazrian Haq Business Development

    Tazrian joined Books Asia in 2022, to focus on Business Development through Social Media and CRM. He's the 3rd generation 'Haq' in the Books Asia family, and keen to build on the growth and reputation of the business.

    Tazrian graduated from the London College of Music, and is an accompliahed Guitarist and Vocalist.

    When he's not busy in the office (or visiting libraries), you'll find him performing at Music Venues across Yorkshire. He's a busy young man :-)
